Administration of Insulin Syringe

The hormone insulin is secreted naturally in humans by the pancreas. This organ is responsible for producing digestive juices and also produces some hormones that affects body’s metabolism. In addition to other effects, the principal task of insulin is to promote glucose uptake by the cells. When blood glucose increases, the pancreas releases insulin. Blood glucose gets elevated when there is decreased glucose sensitivity of cells and also when there is absence of decreased insulin production. These medical conditions are called Diabetes Mellitus. Therefore doctors prescribe patients with insulin when medication alone fails to give satisfactory results. Usually insulin is administered with the help of insulin syringe. It is not suitable for oral consumption because it gets digested in our digestive tract.

Proper management of diabetes involves the right administration of insulin syringe via mgenmedical. The hormone is generally injected into the patient’s subcutaneous layer of skin. This medication can be administered on various sites of the patient’s body. The common methods by which the insulin doses can be administered include use of syringes or insulin pumps. Although it is necessary that you opt for expert’s help, you can self-administer insulin syringe by following some simple guidelines.

Initially you must get all the things that will be needed including spirit swabs, insulin syringe, insulin vials, etc. The insulin vial should be thoroughly inspected because it tends to undergo degradation when not in use for more than 30 days. You should wash your hands by using soap and water. Then the insulin should be gently mixed in the vial. The top of insulin vial should be cleaned by using spirit swab. The protective sheath of the syringe should be removed and the plunger should be withdrawn until the appropriate dose is set. The needle should be inserted into the insulin vial’s rubber cap. The air present inside the syringe can be injected into vial by pressing the plunger.

The plunger can be withdrawn slowly by turning vial upside down. The insulin amount in the syringe should be slightly more than that is needed. The syringe should be held in such a manner that the needle faces the upward direction. To make the air bubbles rise up we need to tap the syringe gently. After that the plunger has to be pushed slowly so that the air bubbles get expelled. The site for administering the injection should be cleaned with the help of spirit swab. The syringe should be entered by keeping the needle at right angles to the skin surface. The syringe has to be withdrawn at same angles. The needle should be carefully disposed and the insulin syringe should not be reused.

Before injecting insulin, you must know where to apply it properly. Some of the spots where insulin can be conveniently injected include the buttocks, the area above the waist, the outside or the front part of the thighs, the outer or upper areas of arms, and the abdomen. However, you must not administer insulin syringe anywhere around the navel.
